Junea:
- TRECO has invested in making our collaboration possible
With a QR code and an app, you can easily help yourself to delicious snacks and cool beverages in Junea's self-service vending machines. The solution is developed for locations with 20-80 users, and even while waiting for the first shipment from China, Junea experienced significant interest in their compact vending machine. Ambitions grew quickly in the Dutch tech startup.
A large market potential and steadily increasing order volumes therefore made the case clear to CEO Tomas de Goeij: Junea needed to optimise the business with a production partner who could both contribute to the development of new products and handle the entire value chain in a scalable setup. At the same time, the uncertain geopolitical situation and delivery times of up to 6 months from China meant that Junea wanted to find a production partner closer to home.
Tomas de Goeij therefore turned his attention to Europe – more specifically Aalestrup in North Jutland. For at TRECO, Junea found a production partner that could meet all of their requirements.

Tomas de Goeij
CEO at Junea
- The unit price is essentially the same as in China when we calculate over product lifetime. We save a lot of money on production optimisation and warranty claim handling.
Tomas de Goeij describes the challenge:
- We are a small organisation, and our core activities are developing new solutions and expanding our sales channels. We are therefore 100% dependent on a collaboration with a professional production partner who can manage the entire value chain for us. At the same time, we wanted to integrate the development phase into the collaboration in order to optimise our business.
Junea was therefore looking for a partner with strong competencies in design engineering, who could simultaneously manage the entire value chain: from sourcing and sheet metal processing to assembly and shipment to customers across Europe – with documented quality assurance that meets the high European standards.
There was one further requirement: Junea needed to move production away from China, and they needed help doing so. And despite the many advantages of European production, it was essential to be able to match Chinese production prices.
- Our checklist was long. And because our business was growing rapidly, the new partner would need to be able to scale production up to 100 machines per month.

Tomas de Goeij
CEO at Junea
- Working with TRECO ensures both high quality and delivery reliability. They understand our needs and support our rapid growth.

The solution:
From China to Denmark – a pivotal decision
Junea's snack vending machines are installed in gyms, businesses, and hotel lobbies, and the company continuously expands with new partnerships and products. A built-in IoT solution automatically orders new supplies when the minimum stock level is reached – and the machine's inventory is easy to update in the app.
- I am delighted. After two years of close collaboration with TRECO, we have finally reached our goal of moving production from China to Europe. I personally took part in the launch of the production line in Denmark, and we have just received the first vending machines – they are truly impressive.
Today, Junea operates in the Netherlands and Belgium. Over the coming years, the company plans to expand into Germany, France, and Switzerland.
- Having TRECO involved in both the design phase and the development of a prototype has delivered a significant improvement in quality. It is very satisfying to see that all machines are now completely identical.
Tomas de Goeij
CEO at Junea
- The geopolitical situation, quality, and delivery times were the most decisive factors in our decision to production to Europe.
The value creation:
High quality, great flexibility, and scalability
For Junea's CEO, it is an important milestone to now be able to say that the products are designed and manufactured in Europe.
Tomas de Goeij summarises the value of the partnership:
- With TRECO's help, we have automated large parts of our production chain. This delivers significant savings on both labour costs and warranty claim handling, and we have largely maintained our cost levels.
Junea's dedicated production line is in full operation, and Junea is already ahead of their forecast. The success underlines the importance of a close and valuable partnership.
- I have full confidence that in TRECO, we have the right partner to scale our business and achieve our ambitious goals.
